Here\u2019s what former SmileDirectClub members should know about this situation and how they can continue their treatments with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.berkshiredentalgroup.com\/invisalign.html\">their local orthodontist<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Is SmileDirectClub Shutting Down?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>SmileDirectClub was founded in 2014 and has served over two million people. The company initially promised to provide patients with clear dental aligners that were supposedly a faster and cheaper alternative to traditional braces. These aligners were sold by mail and through major retailers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company was valued at around $8.9 billion when it went public in 2019, but the stock fell year after year, with the company losing $86.4 million in 2022. Facing the opposition of the dental community and year after unprofitable year, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September 2023, reporting almost $900 million in debt. The company has confirmed that it will be shutting its doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Will Happen to Existing Customers?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>SmileDirectClub has confirmed that it will no longer be supporting its telehealth aligner services or providing patients with aligners. Unshipped orders have been canceled and the so-called \u201cLifetime Smile Guarantee\u201d is no longer effective. Since all operations have ceased, the company has urged its clients to seek the help of their local dentists or orthodontists for further care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Can I Continue My Treatment?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>SmileDirectClub used telehealth appointments and DIY bite impression kits to provide its services, and the dental health community by and large did not approve. This model left many aspects of a patient\u2019s oral health overlooked and could lead to long-term consequences such as a botched alignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thankfully, your local orthodontist is well-equipped to provide you with high-quality, personalized orthodontic treatments.
